Student Research Opportunities in Computer Science

Many Computer Science faculty conduct research with students, some with pay through grants or departmental/administrative funding, some on a voluntary basis or beginning in course-work. Such opportunities offer students a chance to study the intricate details of the cutting edge of Computer Science.

Given the enrichment of a strong faculty - student interaction and cooperation, students who demonstrate academic excellence can partake in these great ventures. The experience, knowledge and prestige gained lasts a lifetime. Whether on a resume or graduate school application, this is a sign of distinction.

Student Job Opportunities in Computer Science

On Campus:

  1. Part-time CS Lab Assistants

  2. CS Work Study Student

  3. CS Student Tutors (please contact Dr. Cyril S. Ku)

  4. Student Technology Consultants (STC)

Off Campus:

Numerous local industries and businesses hire Computer Science majors well before graduation. Some of our students have formed consulting firms. As the nature of these positions grow and change rapidly, listing them in static web pages would soon become dated; hence, for further details, consult CS Bulletin boards (keep current), CS faculty, and a great resource of job preparatory skills and information, the Career Development Center of WPUNJ. Register your resume with them. Get experience before you graduate, whether by these methods or Internship.

Internship:

Four sources of Internship are available.

  1. Consult the continuously updated CS Bulletin Boards, informal but kept current by the Department secretary. Also, CS faculty often know of positions and leads.

  2. The Career Development Office will place your resume on file. As companies submit internship requests, they will match the job requirements against the resumes.

  3. The Office of Continuing Education and Distance Learning provides the Information Technology Manager Internship which places undergraduates into schools (and sometimes businesses) to help with computer-related activities including software, hardware, and networking.

  4. Upper level Computer Science students who perform academically relevant Internships can get Computer Science course credit through CS 495.
